XANADU

Price range: $4.23 through $19.45

LATIN NAME: PHILODENDRON XANADU

The Basics
Xanadu grows in pots or in the ground forming large, neat looking clumps. Native to Australia, Xanadu is an evergreen shrub that usually grows to about 2 or 3 feet. In recent years it has become the most popular Philodendron in Florida. The medium-size indented leaves are glossy green in color. Leaves may grow from 12 to 18 inches long. Xanadu needs to be watered regularly in summertime and should be reduced in winter.

The Needs
Amount of Sunlight: Sun to Partial Shade / Light Shade
Amount of Water: Water regularly but give the plant time to dry out between waterings.
Soil Conditions: Well drained soil
Cold Hardiness Zone: 9-11

The Care
Choose a well-drained area for this moderately drought-tolerant plant. Plant with a combination of top soil or organic peat moss mixed with composted cow manure added to the hole. You’ll rarely have to trim a Xanadu – its clumping growth pattern forms an attractive cushion shape all by itself. Water regularly but be sure to allow the plant time to dry out between waterings. Too much water can kill any philodendron plant. Fertilize 3 times a year – spring, summer and fall – with a quality granular fertilizer.
